Cracked L98 heads
The machine shop called me today saying both of my heads have cracks in them. At the time she doesn’t know if they are repairable or not, so I’m asking, if they are repairable would it be a good idea to do? Would the heads be as strong as they were before the cracks? And if they are not repairable what heads should I get that are the same or a little better than the L98's? I need this car to be able to pass emissions. The heads are iron and from an 89 T/A I don’t know the casting number right now.

They're probably cracked between the exhaust and intake seat, thats where most crack. Its repairable, but the quality of the repair is totally dependent on whos doing the work. Chances are finding good cores and paying for those is a better idea than paying for crack repair.

Re: Cracked L98 heads
They say the cracks are too far in to the water jackets. So I need to find some new heads! I have heard that all vortec heads are not EGR. Maybe I have bad hearing but these off summit look like they have EGR on them. The link is to big to copy and paste but its at summitraceing.com and the # is NAL-12558060 Am I right, do they have EGR on them?

Re: Cracked L98 heads
They said they didn’t have any. I also want to put on similar heads to the l98’s. As you can see my knowledge about heads is limited and I don’t know how to go about shopping for heads, so all help and advice is appreciated.
