Would bad IAC prevent starting
I am almost at wits end with this.
Last week I started my car for the first time this year it ran crappy as usual.
I burned a chip with the ARAP bin and ran the car with that and it ran about the same as with my ABWN. Set base timing set fuel pressure and the car still popped excesively from the exhaust so I shut it down for the evening. Next time I went to start it, it wouldnt. I have been trying to figure it out...every single part on the engine is new. One thing I noticed and maybe I am wrong but before when I jumped terminals A&B at the ALDL and turned the ignition I could hear the IAC funtioning. That is not the case now I dont hear anything when I do this. I put a noid on the IAC harness and it was constantly on. I dont know what this means?
Car has fuel pressure, good spark, TPS is at 54 and injectors pulse I checked with noid.
any suggestions?
thx
Jeff

if the IAC is bad & bottomed out, you should be able to lightly get on the throttle & start it.

The motor will start, but you will have to idle it with the throttle. Take the IAC out, clean the spring and make sure the assembly moves ok being careful not to break it.
Reinstall, set it and run. Maybe the fuel pump is going? Fuel pump relay going bad?
Could be many things if the car has been sitting for a long time.

Re: Would bad IAC prevent starting
Thanks guys,
The IAC is working and the car still wont start! Every single part is less than six months old????
The car ran, I adjusted timing and fuel pressure shut it off for the night and it has not started since?
It has fuel it has spark at the plugs
When you turn it over it sounds like it wants to hit for a second and then just cranks
WHAT AM I MISSING?
thx

Did you plug that little tan wire for setting the timing back in and checked that that distributor bolt is tight?

Check the compression. From turning the motor over for a while will eventually wash the cylinder walls down with fuel so there is no oil on them meaning the rings don't seat correctly on the wall resulting in no compression. This actually happened to me on one cylinder and I just took a little oil in an oil squirter and lubed up the cylinder walls via the spark plug hole. Fired up and run like a charm.

Thanks folks:
Yes tan wire is pluged in and compression is around 210psi per cylinder.
I am at a loss
