Injector Problem?

I just buttoned up the engine after removing the upper intake manifold to confirm the EGR passages were clear (failed emission inspection for high NOx).

During the tear down, I noticed that a few of the injectors had broken dust caps (OEM Rochester). I purchased a set of flow matched stock replacement injectors from Fuel Injector Connection to replace the originals.

I also replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

The engine would start, but wouldn't run very well. Acted like it had a few dead cylinders. It would run for a bit on starting fluid, but would soon die.

While I was confirming that the plug wires were installed on their correct plugs, I felt the header tubes. Some were warm, others were cold.

Suspecting a fuel problem, I pulled a few plugs and found that they all did not appear the same. The numbers correspond to the cylinder the plug was installed in.

Here's what the original plugs looked like (in no particular order).

I'm going to confirm the ignition system operation over the weekend, but I have a feeling I'm going to be pulling the plenum off again. It appears that some cylinders are getting fuel, one is getting a LOT of fuel, and some aren't getting any fuel.

The FIC injectors I installed are Bosch II (I think) with Ford ovals.

Re: Injector Problem?

If 1 were like 3,5, & 7 I'd say the driver's side injector bank fuse is blown.

Re: Injector Problem?

I spoke with Jon at Fuel Injector Connection yesterday evening. He is sending me a set of replacement injectors.....free of charge, no questions asked.

Wow. And I purchased the original injectors back in May of 2009 and I just got around installing them a few weeks ago. When I contacted Jon, I wasn't looking for free stuff, my money back or anything like that. I just wanted some diagnostic help.

I can't say enough about their customer service. If you're looking for injectors, stock replacement or for special applications, you can't go wrong with Fuel Injector Connection, IMO.

Again, I'd like to thank Jon and Forum Member irocuroc for their help.
