TPI 305 (LB9) Starting issues.... HELP
I am having an issue I am trying to troubleshoot. 1992 TPI LB9 (305) with 145K on it. This is a dual cat car...
Here are my symptoms:
- Very hard to cold start, blows smoke, running excessively rich. Almost runs the battery out trying to get it started. Occasionally, it is hard to start warm too.
- When I finally do get it started, it I have to keep the gas down or it dies.
- Idles strange, takes some time to warm up to get the idle right.
- Exhaust note sounds totally different
- My coolant was unusually low, but no water in oil.
-The Exhaust pops and crackles when in gear decelerating.
- Smells like sulfur sometimes, could be A/F ratio with it running rich, or could be a cat.
- I pulled the throttle body, found oil in the ports and intake both.
- The car seems to have a lack of power too....
I'm no mechanic, but this one has me stumped. Before I run off buying parts and installing them the expensive way, I wanted some opinions from TGO members.
I don't know too much about diagnosis on this car. I would guess:
-02
-MAFS
-Bad Cat
-TPS
I was almost in the same boat a year or so ago, and it cost me an arm and a leg because I started fixing stuff that wasn't broke. I am trying to avoid that again. Any/Alll thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds like a MAF but that car, being a 92, should be an SD car right? My 87 was doing almost the exact same thing when I put the 355 in and it was my MAF.
