testing the MAF sensor NOT the cars wiring

does ANYONE ANYWHERE know how to test the MAF sensor itself?? i have the FSM and in following the trouble tree for code 34(which is the only code stored)im finding that the cars wiring is ok.power relays are good ect. heres the scene.....i have no throttle response.backfire.no idle AND a code 34 with the MAF plugged in.clear the codes and unplug the MAF and it runs and drives somewhat better and it sets a code 33. mileage took a hit from 20 in town to 14. i cant seem to fix this issue once and for all. and a intake and carb are looking very attractive right about now.BUT does anyone know how i can test the MAF off the car? say ,,like laying on the counter at auto zone?? my car is a 86 camaro TPI 305. and to date i have been thru 7 diffrent MAFs in the last year.SOMEBODY HELP!!:

Unles you can set up a fan and measure grams per second airflow and the voltage output vs GPS at the maf the answer is no you can't bench test.

Re: testing the MAF sensor NOT the cars wiring

7 replacements seems a bit much. Im kinda new to this but am a we bit familiar with the workings. What is it doing to make you believe that your MAF is not functioning the way it is supposed to?

Walk us through the code 34 flow chart and answer the questions so we can follow the flow.

car ran fine and then. it started having bog/hesitation issues.cel came on ,only 1 code,34.checked for vac leaks with starter fluid ,found none.checked the vac with car idling,17 in hg.clear codes start car immediate code 34 (only code presented)clear codes ,unplug MAF,start car and it gives a code 33.which is what the FSM says it should do.all the wires going to the MAF are ok,checked circuit 998(the green wire going to the ECM) for opens or shorts, none found.12v on the red wire with KOEO.the 2 grnd circuits are clean and tight and when measured for resistance none found.the FSM says that when all other things check out ,replace MAF.which i have done 7 times in the last few months

Re: testing the MAF sensor NOT the cars wiring

Do you have anyone nearby that would let you swap in a known good MAF? If I were closer, I would.

Re: testing the MAF sensor NOT the cars wiring

I briefly heard mention that a MAF relay sticking during the burn off period might cause premature failure.
