Transmission differences 700R4 F vs Y
I have a 1986 Vette with a 700R4 that will need a rebuilding in the near future. I also have a 1987 700R4 out of a 350 L-98 GTA (F-body), I want to rebuild the 1987 GTA transmission and then swap it into my Vette. A visual inspection of the two transmissions reveals that the rear tail shaft where the torque arm hooks up is different between the two transmissions. Does anyone know if I can just switch the tail shafts between the two transmissions or do I also need to switch the output shafts and any related hardware? I plan to rebuild the GTA transmission with all high performace parts to handle my new engine power. I would really like to just switch the two transmissions and the tail shafts when I decide to swap. If I have to tear appart both transmissions to make on good transmission I will just rebuild the Vette transmission and live with the down time.
Thanks
Thanks

If memory serves you should be able to switch the tailshafts without a problem. The output shaft length should be the same for each trans. The only problem you may run into is the type of speedo drive you have either mechanical or electric.
