i am going to be buying a Either a 1988 RS or a 1991 RS and they both have a 5spd in them and i was wondering if i were to cream that tranny, because i am going to put a built up 350 in it, if i should put a aftermarket 5spd or a 6spd in it. And if 5 spd which one is better and which 5 spd is cheaper and where to get it. I would also like to know what would have to be changed with either the aftermarket 5 or 6 speed transmission put into it.

How did you find 2 5 speed thirdgens? I can't find one anywhere.

I won't vote for any of em. Go with a used t56 out of a wrecked 4th gen. The vette's also used the t56 up until 96. Just check that the tranny shifts before paying for it then IF you don't trust it, go ahead and rebuild it. You could probably find em for between $800 and $1200. The only thing you would need to get is a modified tranny crossmember OR make your own (cut the stock one in 2 places and reweld). I wouldn't go with any new 5 speed unless the car was a drag only vehicle. Then I'd go ahead and get the Richmond 5 speed and have custom gears installed.

Well i live in a smaller town and there arent any wrecked ones in our junk yard at all. So I was looking for a new transmission to put in its place when it implodes or explodes.
