Tranny choices, what to buy??
I have been doing searches, and seem to have come to a few conclusions:
1) 700R4's can't handle strong powerplants; leading to a swap to a TH350, TH400, or a variety of manual tranny's
2)TH350 is weaker than TH400, but still much stronger than 700R4's
3)Rebuilding a 700R4 to handle decent power is $$$$$, and the TH350 or TH400 can do the job much better cheaper.
With that being said, I am searching for a decent TH350 or TH400(wanting to stick with the automatics) I plan +500HP/500TQ in the future, most likely from a BBC. What should I do? I have seen several types of the TH series by different manufacturers, like Hughes, TCI, B&M, blah, blah, blah.... Which manufacturer is recommended by the members of this board? I don't want a hardcore racing tranny, as I intend to drive the car to the track, and also intend on making the car a sleeper(as much as you can with a BBC under the hood ) I also plan on rebuilding the 9 bolt similar to Miles setup, inspired by his acheivements with his.

Car: 89rs
Engine: 400Sb
Transmission: Tremec 3550
well.. several other issues need clarifying first
is this a daily driver??
what rear-end gearing will be used...
Do you have $1500+ to afford a 700r4 prepared for a BB?
Otherwise,, go with a 350 till it craters... it can be made to hold almost anything ..
A TH 400 will have crossmember issues. A 350/400 will require torque arm relocation or refittment.

You should be able to find some shops in your area that can build a decent 350 or 400. 700's are a different story alltogether. Don't even bother trying to get a local shop to rebuild a 700.

Tell me more about the moyor you are planning to build? What is the weight of the car with driver? What kind of driving are you planning to do with this vehicle? daily driver?, weekend warrior? etc. Let me know, then I can give you the best idea on which transmission & torque converter to go with.
