i now this question has already been asked but i cant seem to find anything wich answers my question completely. I was wondering if it is even worth it to convert my 700r4 car to a t5, i know that the t56 is the ultimate swap but i have limited funds as of right now and my 700r4 is about toast. if i could find the right stuff to complete the swap for around $400 would it be worth it? i could still swap to the t56 down the road. How long does a t5 last on average if not beten on real bad?

400 bucks is a pretty good deal. My t5 made it a whole 2 weeks, under very little abuse but i am pretty sure ther was already something wrong when i got it.

If really want a manual car then its worth it . I am in the middle of a t-5 swap right know . So far i have 400 in the trans after it was rebuilt , and shipped to me , also came with the bellhousing , and clutch fork. I bought a b&m ripper shifter for 90.00 with **** and lower boot, pedals i got them for 17.00 , hyd. brand new from g.m for 120.00 , clutch and psi plate was free (only had 1k on it ) , at this time i lack the flywheel (still trying decide if i want to buy stock replacement or something lighter , anyone know how much the stock one ways ?) pilot bearing , throw out bearing , upper console . so at this time i have around 630 into my project . depending on my flywheel , i figure about 900 to do the whole thing . Thats about the price of doing a rebuild on the 700 with a nice pan , convertor and cooler . But i like to road race , and autox. So what it all boils down to is what is going to make you happy . As far as how long the trans will last , the guy i work next to has 488 rwhp and 491 rwtq going through one , running 11.60 at 122mph . SO it all depends in how good the bearings are in it , if you get play in the bearings then the gears don't mesh right , or you hit 3rd a little to hard . 3rd gear dosn't have a lot of support and the shaft will flex , more so with bad bearings .
