busted driveshaft

this is 4th gen related but you guys are the best help on the net so I hope you will be able to help me. I busted my 2 pieces driveshaft on my firebird yesterday, the center joint (somekind of bearing?) was torn apart and now GM just told me that I can't just change that, I have to buy a new driveshaft (1200$ CND!!!) Did it ever happened to someone and can it be fixed, rebuilt? I'm bringing the driveshaft tomorrow to a specialized place but the guy never saw that kind of driveshaft so it worries me a bit since 4th gens are awefully rare in junkyards... anyone has any imput on this?

thanks

Replace it with a used shaft from an 84-92 V6 or V8 shaft, or a 4th gen V8 shaft.

they fit without mods? I have a manual tranny... all of the driveshafts are the same length? either auto or man?

Yup, all the same, any car with a 700R4 or 4L60E automatic, a T-5, or a T-56. Only ones that are different are older cars with a 200 auto or a 4-speed.

They were used to keep noise and vibrations down more if im not mistaken, just get a 1 piece shaft and have it balanced and you'll be all set.
