Rear ends swappable from V6 to V8?

I have an 88 v6 camaro and a 91 v8 camaro and I was looking in the tech data and noticed the 88 V6 camaro has 3.42 gears and the 91 V8 has 2.73. Does that mean that it is better and can handle more? Is it possible to just swap these axles directly without getting new parts? I've never done anything this extensive to a car, but I'm more than willing to get into it and rip stuff apart because I have the week off this week pretty much. The rear end is slipping in the 91 pretty badly (pretty sure its the rear end, transmission is very smooth.) I also heard these rear ends aren't the greatest to begin with.

Thanks

So would there be an advantage to swapping them between the cars? Would the V6 suffer if I did that? The two rear ends can be directly swapped with no problems or parts needed right?

Well, your v6 is probably already slow, putting the 2.73 in it would be the final straw of slow. On the other hand your 305 would respond very well to the 3.42 rear. The will direct swap rear for rear.

Thank you for the replies, I'm going to be selling the 88, but I want to keep the best stuff for the 91, but on the bright side the 88 has flawless interior that I cant swap out because then things wont match It needs some body work too so it'll be around for a while.

I did the swap during this past week, it totally rocks!

Rusty bolts took a day to get off, but putting the rear ends back on wasnt as hard as getting them off
