I just put this transmission in my 91 v6 camaro and it will not go into any gear higher then first. The only gears that work are R and 1st. I tried ajusting the TV cable, made it tight loose took the damn thing off and nothting.
What could caose a 700r4 to not shift into any gear higher then first other the a misajusted tv cable? Thanks for any help.

Under the metal dome, drivers side (for US vehicles), rear of trans (tailshaft area). Hammer and punch to carefully remove cover, pull governor out, replace gear.
Slide governor back in, put cover back in place and ONLY tap around the edges to seat.
Say, wow, that was easy, drive car.

I am having a similar problem with my transmission, only it shifts into second, but no farther. I'm just wondering if it could be stemming from the same problem, or if it is something different entirely.
I am led to believe that it is something different, because in drive/od the transmission behaves normally shifting from first to second, but when it should shift into third(which varies depending on throttle position), it shifts into a quasi-nuetral state(ie, no further power is transferred from the engine to rear wheels, and the engine revs freely). I would guess that this is a problem with the third gear specifically, but I have absolutely no transmission experience whatsoever, so I'm not sure.
I'm not too worried about fixing it at this point if it is anything too complicated(I'm currently in the market for a v8/t5 parts car), but if it is as simple as a governor gear, id like to fix it.
