whats the best way to go about this?

Ok, when installing the trans crossmember on my 92 rs, I got a little too happy with the impact gun, and busted the weld holding the nut for one of the crossmember bolts, anyone else had this happen, how do i go about fixing this? Hope this explains well enough. The bolt is still securely in place, but will spin slightly, so Im pretty sure i didn't snap it.
I feel really dumb for that, but... just want to get it fixed

You broke one of the captured nuts that's in the framerail where the bolt goes through?

That's a tough one. You can't access the backside of it, so it isn't like you can just tack weld it back to together. I would try to tack it twice and grind the weld flush on the outside and see if it holds.

If that isn't feasible or doesn't work about the only other thing I can think of would be to cut a hole in the top of the floorpan over the rail and effect a repair once it is exposed. Then you'll need to weld the floor back together for structural intergrity. It sounds terribly difficult, but I've done this on Novas and Camaros that snapped the subframe bolts off, and it isn't really that big a deal if you know how to weld.

thanks for the reply
well, when i get my subframe connectors maybe i'll see if they can do that when they pull up the carpet (from what i understand, most reputable shops do that so the carpet doesn't burn) hopefully this will do the trick. like i said, there shows no signs of deflection from the xmember and if i would have snapped it off, the bolt head should have fallen out, or spin freely (the bolt turns now, but only when turned by a wrench, and you have to exhibit some force)

Yeah, a good shop should be able to fix this with a minimum of fuss. They definately need to pull up the carpet and remove the front seats to do the subframes to keep from setting it on fire.
