speedometer quit working
On my 89 IROC--350/700R4--cruise control--speedo quit working. code 24
Is this car an electronic driven speedo rather than a cable driven? What would be the most likely thing wrong and/or what would be the correct trouble shooting procedure to locate what needs replaced?
Thanks!!!
Craig

I have the same exact car with the same exact problem. Mine has a cable. My began making noise a long time ago when it got cold outside, and recently it was reporting double the speed I was actually going. I'm going after the cable first. You posted this more than a month ago... did you fix it?

Yeah, broken cable at the tranny. Replacement was a 1 piece where the OEM was a 2 piece (connecter was close to brake booster).
Wasn't all that hard- just time consuming-just had to remove the dash cluster to get to the clip that holds it in place--crawled under the car to remove from tranny and 2 small brackets that held cable in place.
If Yours is doing what U said--I'm not sure it would be the cable--more than likely the problem is in the speedometer gauge in the dash.
The noise is either the cable needing lubed or the speedo bushing on the back of the speedo or internally in the head.
Assume it is in the head, figure out where U would send it to be repaired (unless U are just gonna replace it--lots of third gen places--like "Thirdgen Ranch"-- that part out old cars that U could get a replacement) and ask them if those symptoms sound like the cable or the head.
