Dexron/Mercon interchangeable?
is it true Mercon V is the same thing as Dexron except synthetic, therefore it can be used in our trannys?
i heard u can use Mercon in place of Dexron but not the other way around. true?
if not then what is the real difference between the 2 fluids?

Car: No more birdy
Mercon is the fNord equivalent of GM Dextron. Either is suitable for your transmission. The newer formulations have more additives and some are partial synthetic blends like Chrysler ATF+ III which also has an aditive for converter clutch chatter reduction. I use ATF+ III in my 700R4s.

so they are pretty much interchangeable. cuz at my shop i always make sure i know what fluid a car takes b4 i do a flush. especially with the imports. dont some of those use stuff besides Mercon/Dextron/ATF + 3? im using Mercon V on mine right now. u using the additive with ur ATF too?
what do u think of Amsoil full synthetic ATF? i was thinking of switching to that. my current tranny i just recently put it in but its from a bird with 150k + miles. it now has a shift kit and works great. but summer's coming and am a lil concerned with the high temps.
