Hey, when i was changing my tranny we found that the shift cable was broken. so we went and go a new one...aftermarket. anyways, the shift range is really weird now. going from park to reverse is only like a small tap away. and by the time youre in 1, youre really only lined up with about d or 2 on the shift plate. it used to line up correctly before. it could also be a problem inside the tranny. we were going to install the shift kit, but i thought hey, i should just get the tranny in the car now so i can drive it and worry about that later. i tightened the bolt that holds down that band, you might know what im talking about. anyways, i might have tightened it too much, and that is what the shift cable hooks up to, could that be the problem? cause we could fix that putting the shift kit in.

also, on the shifter itself, the **** spins around now, and the button stays in...or kind of does, or something. when we put the **** back on we were left over with a small rectangular plate, does anyone know if that might be a problem too, or maybe the problem. we reinstalled that little thing that looks like an earing (dont know what its called but its like most of a circle with circles on the ends). hope i was helpful, thanks for the help. ill try to go find a pic of that bolt i was talking about earlier.

 

found a good pic. its that bolt that you can see further down than the filter. its going across that big silver band looking thing. i think youll know what im talking about.
