3rd & 4th m.i.a.
losing 3rd and 4th gear seems to be a pretty common appearence around here, but one thing I've noted about all those is that they all seem to have just recently added major HP to their engines.
I just lost 3rd and 4th this morning, but with no fuss. basically it just stopped engaging those gears, there was no shudder, no grinding, no nothing...it simply didn't leave 2nd.
also, I have a stock L03, at 255 tq, and not exactly hot rodding, I'm thinkin I didn't exactly overstress the tranny.
I've been told that it might be the kickdown cable, I'm going to check this, but I was wondering if I could get a second opinion on just how likely this is.

what happes if you manualy put the trans into 1st gear and manual shift from 1st to 3rd gear? its a little odd that it won't come out of 2nd at all. nomaly when the 3-4 clutch place goes back it will first from 1st to 2nd and 3rd feels like N are your shaft from 1st to 2nd very fast, the same as before, or are they long apart at 1/4 thorrle? just tryign to get some mor into to i know where you point you to look at... it sould be a bad gov. could be the TV cable is out of adjustment but for it not to shift into 3rd at all is one i'm not use to .

shifts the exact same. after 30mph it feels like neutral until over 3k rpms, in which case it seems to downshift back to 2nd.
the transmission feels completely normal otherwise, I can even put it into drive and overdrive and it runs just fine, until it's time to shift to third, thats when it just feels like neutral.

3/4 clutch pack is burnt. govenor most likely won't help either nor will the throttle cable(700R4s don't technically have a "kickdown"). the 3/4 clutch pack going out is a common problem on the 700R4s but can be upgraded rather easily during rebuild.

yep i would say your 3-4 clutch pack is gone. .... you knwo i do have a transmisison for sale. that has upgrades done to it to make make it last longer and it makes the car more fun to drive :-D and on top of that is only has 1000 miles on it since the rebuilt

yeah your 3/4 clutch pack is gone. my car did the same thing a little bit ago. let me guess before it went out it would not shift into 3rd at full throttle right?

now's its just a matter of pulling a WHOLE LOTTA MONEY outta my...well you get the idea.
