so i was flippin through a jegs catalog and i saw one for a 700r4...
the way its made to sound, you have complete control over shifts just like you would in a manual transmission
is that how it works?
im wonderin if anyone here has one, and what its like and how much of a pain it is to swap.

I'm not going to coment on an OD feature of a valve body since OD isn't a performance gear.

Some manual valve bodies allow you to keep in in D and keep the full automatic operation.

Typically, a manual valve body just eliminates all automatic shifting. If you put the tranny in D (third), it will start off in third gear and if you repeatedly do this, you'll quickly burn up the clutches. When shifting through the gears going up or down, you need to be aware of what gear you're in and what gear you need to shift to. If you downshift at too high of a speed, it can cause more damage than a manual transmission because you don't have a clutch to slip.

Some of the manual valve bodies use a reverse shift pattern. Instead of PRN321 it's PRN123. Some valve bodies remove the engine braking feature. If you lift off the gas, the car will not use the engine to assist braking and you'll coast a lot quicker.

Although some people can handle the shifting, a manual valve body can get annoying after a while if in a daily driver. It's really just designed for racing. Drag racing is strictly upshifting under WOT. If used in autocross, you can force the tranny to stay in a specific gear until you want to shift.

A manual valve body swap is a simple swap. If it also includes a transbrake, the tranny needs to be disassembled for internal modifications.
