What is your cruise RPM in Overdrive?

Hi Guys,

I am a new member and am doing a little bit of powertrain research. I am trying to find out what the rear axle ratio from the factory was for a 3rd gen Camaro with the TH700-R4 trans, the 305 small block engine, and also the original equipment tire size. Lastly, was the TH200-4R an option on any of these cars? Can anyone help me?

Re: What is your cruise RPM in Overdrive?

check ur RPO codes, if not u could check the axle tube. they ranged with the autos from 2.73-3.23, tire sizes ranged also from 15x7, 16x8 depending on suspension option, engine option and year. u didnt state wat year it was or if the engine is TPI, TBI, carb etc. the 200r4 is not an option it was the only auto trans avaliable before the 700r4 and only offered in the first 2 yrs of production i believe.

with the 700r4s .76 ratio in overdrive on my stock gears which are 3.23's since i have the 350tpi and posi 9bolt is around 2000rpms at roughly 60-65mph.
----------
also im not sure about the tire sizes on the 15x7 but the 16x8's ran 245/50/r16 gator backs from the factory.

Re: What is your cruise RPM in Overdrive?

4th/OD ratio in a 700r4 is .70 - also the stock tachs are notoriously incorrect

The only way you'll ever know for sure the rear ratio is pulling the cover and counting teeth. It more than likely needs the fluid changed anyhow. - Count the teeth on the ring gear, then count the teeth on the pinion. Divide the ring gear by the pinion and you have your ratio. Probably 2.73 if stock.

Re: What is your cruise RPM in Overdrive?

First welcome to TGO.To expand on the information Customblackbird put up 14" wheels(195/75 and 205/70)were standard on early Sport Coupes('82 to possibly '87)and Berlinettas. On the 15" wheels most common tire size was 215/65 but I believe 235/60 may have been an option(they are roughly the same height). On the 16" wheels along with the 245/50 the 235/55 was an option.
Also the TH200C was the only auto available in '82 and was an option on the SC and Berlinetta until '85 or '86.As far as I know the 200R4(4R) wasn't available on 3rd Gen Camaros(it was used on just about every other GM carline). The 700R4 was available from '83(only auto option for Z28)up with it's designation changed to 4L60 in '90-'91(not sure exactly).

Re: What is your cruise RPM in Overdrive?

2500 with 3.27's in final drive with shortish tires (185 50 14s). Was about 2400 with the stock tires (btw this is with a TH350 and an AutoGage tach). (These are at 55mph, 60 isn't much of a change maybe 200rpm)

Re: What is your cruise RPM in Overdrive?

I have an 89 Iroc with the 350 TPI and a stock 2.77 in the rear, and I run 2500 rpm at 70 miles an hour! Also I have 225 60 16's out back, so the rpms should be way less, right? Do I have a problem?
