4L60-E and 700R4 parts interchange...
I have an '84 700R4 in my car. It has the 27 spline input shaft and 7 vane pump. I want to convert it to the 30 spline, 13 vane using parts from a later model 4L60-E. I'm not sure what year 4L60-E it is but it's from a 4wd truck and has the 2-piece bellhousing.
Is this do-able? Can I simply transfer the pump and input shaft assembly in my transmission.

no. the pumps are different. it's probably a pwm pump w/the lips as well. they do not interchange.
what are you trying to do exactly? upgrade. just start with a 87+ aux vb core. it's less hassle. if you must, then get a 85+ pump that uses the 30 spline input shaft and get a 10/13 vane pump kit. also get the 85+, 30 spline input drum as well.

If you want to upgrade then you really should just step up to the 87+ trans. The pump and input are not the only changes. You can get a core for around $250, then either buy a kit and DIY or have someone build it for you. If you use a local rebuilder, buy the parts from Pro Built or PATC(raptor) and have the shop install them. Most local trans rebuilder's don't have a clue how to build a strong 700r.
also, a stock 4L60E pump is probably a 10-vane. 13 is aftermarket.

actually, the 13 vane pump is factory in a lot of the 2-piece case designs starting in '98 or '99. all 4L65E units had the 13 vane pump.

i have a 92 chevy 1500 2wd with a 700r4 that the transmission went out ive noticed the tailshaft plug is different from mine to some of the ones i have went to look at to buy im guessing they would be the 4l60/4l60e mine has the electrical plug as the others have a hose fitting is there a way to change the tailshafts if so how and would it be easier to just find the same one i have?
