700R4 to 350 Turbo swap

Hi, I am re-swapping the drive train in my 1988 Camaro. It had an original v6 manual transmission in it. I have a 350 Turbo transmission for it now. Can I re-use the transmission mounting plate or should I get a new one? The guy who did the swap before I bought it re-used it but the motor sat to far back towards the firewall. Is there a mounting plate specifically designed for the 350 turbo? If someone could email me at Brandon_usmc03@yahoo.com and let me know. I would like to get this part as soon as possible if it exist. I want to do this swap right.

Re: 700R4 to 350 Turbo swap

hello and welcome. a turbo 350 can be used and there are adapters to get them to adapt to the factory crossmember and torque arm, but you need to make sure you get one with the correct length tailshaft (9").

here's a link to a similar topic, might help:

Re: 700R4 to 350 Turbo swap

I dont know why everyone is so bent on buying a swap kit. if you reuse the tailshaft from the 700R4 you can bolt the toque arm right up and driveshaft fits in nicely. Granted it leaves a 1" or less witness mark on the d-shaft because it is slightly shorter with that combo. But i have never had any problems with that route. And then the factory speed sensor will still work in a Pontiac so the ECM can read it.

I found the kit. It was $95 from B&M. The money is worth it if you want something done correctly. Rigging things up that seem okay is not good. Had the guy who owned it before me did the swap correctly I would have only had to pull the motor and not the transmission with it as well. If you don't use this kit and your motor blows you might as well kick yourself because it will be the same project all over again. Thank you!

Re: 700R4 to 350 Turbo swap

I usea long tailshaft TH350 and welded an extension to the front of the factory Xmember for the TH350 tranny mount. Luckily I have an 85 and the speedo cable worked with the cable driven TH350. Not a big deal to swap and way less headache than a 700R4.
