Turbo 350 issues
I have a Turbo 350 behind a 383 that the T350 is giving me some really quick shifts. I'm in 3rd gear by rolling 100ft. It does not wind up. It cannot even get up and move quickly since when you step on the gas it wants to bog and shift. Hoping someone can help or lead me in the proper direction as I'm dropping $ on it and it is getting no better.
It has been rebuilt and supposedly has a Transgo Shift kit. I just had a tranny guy look at it and he put in a new Governor and modulator and no change at all in shift pattern. He did say there was no modulator valve behind the old modulator. So he installed that along with the new modulator. Governor was taken back out and he installed some lighter springs, weights from a B&M kit I bought with no difference
He then stated it could be valve body, if springs are missing etc, or pressure issues. I've been doing lots of research and governor and modulator would seem to be the first culprits, but with these out of the way..what is the next step? Any thoughts on what could be causing these issues? Thank you.

Manually it shifts fine.
I have an adjustable modulator and it's maxed. No different.

Re: Turbo 350 issues
Vacuum line is perfect. Had it tested and it's all metal except for the two ends. Hooked into manifold vacuum.
I wish I was exaggerating, but it's true. Also when driving it shift 1/2 2/3 instant..no delay right from 1-3..kinda comical, but I'm wondering if it's Valve body related.
Anyone have experience with valve bodies where this issue may happen?

i was having a similar problem with the shifting too early, but not bogging. manually shifted perfect. in drive i could leave a light and be in 3rd before i crossed the road. i tried an adjustable modulator with no difference. i installed the governor recalibration kit & it got a little better. i had to keep playing with the weights & springs but it finally works right. you can run just one light weight. might be a bad governor assembly? it should be noted, my tranny was ordered for a heavy truck originally.

Re: Turbo 350 issues
Sofa - Thank you. The mechanic said it was for a 70 Camaro. It has a red stripe on it. Should I get a different one? Any suggestions?
******* - Thank you. Are you running just one light weight? I started some changes, but nothing has changed in the shifting pattern. I changed one outer weight and a spring. What is a good starting point?

The red stripe one is the one to get, so no, you should not get a different one. They're cheeeeeep though, so you could try replacing it, with the same type (not magenta stripe, not green, not the big black can type) but don't expect miracles.
Sounds more to me like something is wrong in the VB. Especially if somebody left out the modulator valve; who knows what else they fornicated. Might want to just get another of those and start over on the shift kit deal. Might also be the pump or pump gasket: that gasket being farkled can make all sorts of bizarre things happen. As eeeeeeeeezie as a 350 is to tear down & rebuild though, might want to quit taking it to "guy" and tackle it yourself; you'll definitely learn something along the way.

i found some notes on the instruction sheet. i started off with #5 weight & red spring, and #6 weight & orange spring. IIRC i went with a heavier spring & weight because it started shifting too late.
from theyre troubleshooting section; high gear too soon,....excessively heavy weights, stuck governor valve, outer weights not installed correctly.

Re: Turbo 350 issues
Sofa - Thank you, I admit I'm leaning towards the valve body also. I started looking online and will talk to a few local tranny shops to see about grabbing another one and trying it out. I agree on tackling it myself, just need to get time which I'll make sure I carve out to get this done. I really want to see what exactly this "professional" tranny guy did to the rebuild.
******* - Thank you. I will see which ones I put on the governor and after I swap the valve body, will take it from there.
Appreciate the help and guidance.
