Transmission question

If you have a Automatic 700r Shift kit transmission can you use 1 2 D D for gear 1234 like a manual car. i know you dont get the power of the manual but is it better for when you say, racing. Just wondering if I should bother with it or if it will screw up the trans. Thanks This was in a different thread then I found transmission.

Re: Transmission question

I don't know about messing up the trans, but I have heard a few members on here that had or still have the 1234 shift kit and while they like it, they don't like having to shift it around town, it sorta defeated purpose behind a automatic tranny. :-/

I put one of those in my trans but I went auto-manual and I have yet to run it, I had the trans out so it was easy, but I had to drill holes in my Valve body and put plugs in others.

Re: Transmission question

Whether the car will be faster by manual shifting, depends on at what RPMs the motor makes the most power.

You can't make it shift earlier, only later. So if it already shifts too late, the car will go slower by holding in a lower gear longer.

Only way to know, is to experiment. Be honest with yourself though; don't think that just because it's fun, it's also faster. Acquire real-world data and make an unbiased decision based on the numbers you see.

About 99.999% of the time, with a stock motor, the shift points are already too high for best ET, and it would actually go faster if it shifted sooner. The more heavily modded the motor is, the more likely it is to need to reach a higher RPM to make max power.
