down shifting manualy/ free wheeling

When i down shift my tranny manualy now it free wheels and the rpms go to 700 no matter that gear i am in or what speed i am going. What gives if i drop it into 2nd @50 mph the rps do not change. when i hit the throttle the rpms rise like i am free reving untill it his where the should be and then the car just breaks the tires loose. when in drive or on the throttle there is no slipage the tranny acts just as it should what gives? i think some thing broke in there. what was it? can it be reapaired easily? i need some help guys.

ok i have narrowed it down to the over run cluch i belive. There is either some thing in the valve body that is not allowing it to engage or some thing in the servo or posibly the cluch is toast how ever it does not even try to grab so i think the cluch is probly ok that brings it down to some thing is broke in the servo or valve body. any thoughts? am i right or is this alot bigger problem than i think.

How did you narrow it down to the overrun clutch? Anyway, sounds like you are on the right track. As for it not working, its not the servo, it has nothing to do with it. In the valvebody? Possible, but not really likely. You may have burnt the clutches up, there is only two. It is possible that you did break the overrun clutch hub wich attaches to the foward sprag. I would pull it out and tear it down. Its no big deal to replace.
