700R4 to 4L80E
Has anyone replaced their 700R4 in their 3rd gen with a 4L80E transmission? I am looking to replace my tired 700R4 for the fresh 383 TPI I'm adding. I was originally looking to get a built 700R4 like the Raptor from PATC or the Super Street Fighter from TCI, but then I saw on Hughes' site they sell everything you need to throw in a HP 4L80E transin place of a 700R4. I am curious from anyone else who has done this, is this a simple replacement? Hughes say they give you a stand-a-lone computer for the electronic trans. How does the speedo hook up to this? I have a 91 Camaro that has gears in my tailshaft, but it's wire (not cable) to the speedo.
Any feedback would be much appreciated!

No. The 4L80E is a big heavy transmission. Although it can be made to fit into a third gen, it's not a simple swap. You'll need a new tranny crossmember and a torque arm designed to be mounted off the transmission. You'll need the larger diameter slip yoke and a shorter driveshaft.
What's their package deal for the transmission, converter and computer? I'd guess a minimum of $4000.

Re: 700R4 to 4L80E
Yeah, ~3300 for the trans w/ the computer, ~900 for the torque converter. The transmission is good for 700-1000 HP and it has overdrive...
Question is, how likely is it I will get a Procharger??
The only 700R4 I've seen that will support 700HP is the Raptor, but I have not heard anything back from their support team, that is a BIG turn-off... All the other 700R4's only support up to 450, when mentioneing a blower, turbos, or NOS, it drops more... Can't say I want to loose the overdrive either.
Anyone else throw one of these 4L80E's in their car?

Re: 700R4 to 4L80E
There are many people running the 700r4 and the 4l60e particularly the 60e(same trans just electronic) with the LS1 cars in the low 10s and even 9s with success. The 80E is a good trans but as mentioned its not a cheap swap and its very heavy. For the price of the swap you could probably buy 2 maybe 3 performance built 700r4 transmissions

Or a 200-4R. Grand Nationals are running into the 10's with them if not into the 9's.

Re: 700R4 to 4L80E
I was using a 700r4 all last year. Was really only built to 600hp specs and I was making 630rwhp, so I was really overpowering it. It held up all year, plus the 405rwhp I had with it the year before, but I did see a pretty decent coating of metalic dust in the bottom of the pan although the transmission still worked top notch. Aside from loosing the overdrive and converter lock, I love my new th400. Think if I was to do it again, instead of getting a built 700r4 only to overpower it and build a th400, I'd just swap to a 4l80e right off the bat using one with a reverse manual valve body so the computer isn't needed.

Re: 700R4 to 4L80E
You know of a listing for such a thing? A 4L80E valve body is nothing like a normal valve body and I've never seen a mechanical valve body listed for a 4L80.
