My car originally came with the 4cyl/3speed tranny set-up,It now has a 305 and 700r-4 I would like to change my shift plate to one that has the space for overdrive,And maybe even update to a b&m shifter,But i've been told that even if i change the shifter plate and shifter,I still won't be able to use all the gears because the metal brace that the shifter sits in is set up for the old 3 sped tranny. Is this true,And if it is,What do i have to do to fix it?

I installed a B&M megashifter in my 82 without any problems. I installed in when I put in a 700r4.
