I got a 1985 IROC with a 305 TPI, auto transmission, and when I first start it up and put it into drive from park the car slams really hard into drive. if i go out on a long cruse and then try to go form park to drive it goes alot smoother. oh and Im not beatin the crap out of it by dropin it into gear and stuff. please help! Im freaked out I might break something!!! Thanks guys, MAxX

if it is a thud that you can feel under the seat/console area when you put it in gear then I would say it is a transmission mount gone bad.

Well it dosnt slam when i put it in reverse only in drive, could it still be the mount?

It probably wouldn't slam when going into reverse seeing how the tourque would be the opposite direction than when put in a forward gear. Try getting on it in a forward gear a little from a standstill and if it clunks while giving it gas then I would say it is definitely is the mount.

the early 700's are bad about this!

the auxilary valve body on the 87 up tranys helps this prob!

i wouldnt be too alarmed but maybe a fluid and filter change might help!

Torque? I am pretty sure it's fine. I have a 305 T.B.I. it slams me into drive also. If I floor it from a dead stop I spin for about 30 feet and it slams 2nd and wants to go sideways

my 89 firebird slams into revers hard enough that if i dont hold the breaks the tires cherp but drive it dont do enything but it only dose this when its cold becouse if its warm i dont feel enything when i put it in revers
