I know burnt fluid means bad tranny....

When I got the IROC with 33K on it the transmission fluid was brown and smelled bad (almost like gear lube), so I changed it immediately and kept siphoning it out of the dipstick tube about 7-8 times as well. 10K miles later the transmission shifts fine like it always has and the TCC functions. I changed it again (I'm ****) and it appeared normal. There was a lot of the "sludge" in the pan on the 33K change, but no big metal particles or anything. It stunk so bad the whole house smelled like it for days .

My engine is in excellent tune and runs fine except it idles low (500RPM) in drive and sometimes dies in reverse. The car also feels like it's struggling in reverse. It also seems underpowered until it hits about 2500 RPM or so. In neutral it revs up easily and sounds good. I've had the whole top half out of it and been over it with a fine-tooth comb.

So what's the deal with the burnt fluid? I'm thinking the torque converter may be sick, thus my sluggishness at low RPM and excess loading on the engine in D or R, but who knows? Thanks for any insight you may have.

mines burnt too, but im not having problems other then the TC quickly locking and unlocking while decelerating in OD or D. but other then that i think i just need to install a Tranny cooler. cause the tranny was rebuilt less then 2 years ago.

go to a jiffy lube or quik lube place where they can purge your trans and get ALL the old fluid out, worked wonders for me!
