12bolt or 9" for less then $1,200????

Is it possible to get a complete 12 bolt or 9" rear without the brakes for that price our am I dreaming? I really do not want a 9"(even thought technically no part in it would be f*rd), but if it is significantly cheaper then I will go for it. I hear Moser engineering is an excellent place to buy from.

You could build your own.

I found a 9" housing from a 1970 F100 pickup. It's very close to the same length of a third gen. Other candidates are early mustang, fairlane, cougar cars.

Cut all the old mounts off the 9". Remove the mounts from the f-body 10 bolt and weld them onto the 9". Measure twice and weld once. All that's left to do is the torque arm mount. Moser won't sell you one but Currie will for about $150. It's a simple mount that has 2 mount brackets welded to the housing. The mount is then bolted to the brackets and the torque arm is bolted to the mount.

I wouldn't recommend using the pickup trucks axles since ford trucks use a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. Aftermarket axles are cheap. If you find and use a car diff, then you just need rims to fit ford cars.

I'm still waiting for my aftermarket axles for my 9". I'm running to quick to use factory axles but on a street car they'll be fine especially if you get 31 spline instead of the 28 spline. Even 28 spline ford axles are stronger than 28 spline chev axles.
Instead of using the torque arm I'll just be installing ladder bars.

As for a 12 bolt, NO, unless you want to use ladder bars or a 4 link. If you want one of those you need to buy an aftermarket one. You can't weld a torque arm mount to a cast housing and expect it to survive.
