Car: 1988 IROC-Z
Engine: 350 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 2.77
thinking about swapping from auto to manual, help plz.

i found a 6 cylinder car with manual trans and was wondering what problems i could run into with the swap and if it would hold up good with my 305, soon to get swapped with my 454. thx for any help.

please at least try to search a bit, there is even a sticky at the top of the page about t5's.

In a nut shell, the v6 t5 will be a real headache to try and attach to a v8, and its really weak. So are the v8 t5's. They will survive behind the 305 if you are careful with it, but will have no chance behind the 454.

now i have people telling me that i cant swap the 6 cylinder manual onto a 305. lol i guess im heading to google.

yea, i told you that already.

Technically you can, you need a 10 spline clutch disc, i believe from an astro van or something like that, and some other parts, but the v6 version of the t5 has gearing setup for a smaller engine, first gear is really low, so on a v8 it would be a mess. And like i said its weaker. Its really not worth the effort to try and use the v6 trans. However you can still get the pedals, hydraulics, shifter plate, crossmember and driveshaft, if you need them, from the donor car. You just have to look for a v8 t5.
