whats wrong??

hi i have a 1983 trans am with a 305 5.0L HO that had the 5 speed tranny taken out. when i bought this car, i was given a 200r4 tranny with a b&m shift kit to replace the missing 5 speed. i have 2 flexplates that are 168 tooth flexplates, a torque converter and a starter to go on it. i put the flexplate on and was about to put the starter in when there wasnt enough room. i took the flexplate on and put the starter in. as i was about to put the flexplate on i noticed it wasnt going to fit. im not sure wich is incorrect..the flexplate or the starter. any help will be appreciated, i havent heard the car run yet and im very impatient lol please help !

Re: whats wrong??

Thirdgens came with 153 tooth flywheels and the accompanying starter.

I don't know if a 168 tooth flywheel and starter fit in the 200-4R; I've always had 153s with them.

Personally, I'd change the flywheel to a stock one for a third gen.

You know a stock T5 driveshaft will be too short, right? At least the speedo cable will work.
