4L60 / 700R4 Weird Shifting
Well, I have broken my fair share of 700R4 transmissions.
I decided to buy a 4L60 transmission of a guy on craigslist, and then took it to a guy who builts stout trannys. He put the beefier sun gear shell, .50 boost valve, various other hard parts and installed a transgo shift kit. I told him I wanted it to shift fast but not harsh, so he built it that way. It also has a corvette governor but stock 2nd gear apply servo.
I installed the tranny myself and for awhile it shifted fine. However, it seems start off in 2nd gear instead of 1st gear. If you manually shift it down to 1st gear, then you will be able to start off in low gear.
The other thing is I seem to have lost 4th gear and sometimes 3rd gear. Now, I am not talking about when its supposed to shift into 4th that it slips and feels like its going into neutral, it just wont upshift from 3rd.
For awhile I only had 2 gears and then one day I drove it and finally it upshifted into 3rd.
I asked the guy who built the tranny and he says it sounds like detent issue. I want to take it into a tranny shop and have them check it, but I dont want them to pull it apart and then call me with the " we have to rebuild it " response when its just a detent cable or a stuck tv valve or something.
