I understand that there are no rebuild parts for these but I was curious to see whether or not it would be easy to fabricate steel shims to tighten one of these units up.

If anyone has any pictures that would be great.

I'm awfully tempted to post a pic of a Summit catalog... It's a bummer the OEM Auburn is such a piece of junk. At least if you replace it with something better, you'll probably never have to do it again.

Assuming that shimming the assembly tighter would compensate for wear, finding shims that fit would be the easy part.

You can't shim it to make it work again. The gears are pressed into the cones. The Borg Warner can be shimmed between the cone and axle gear. The cone can be machined on the end so that it isn't bottomed out in the case. This will restore the BW unit and make it work again. You can't do this with the Auburn. Just junk it and get an Eaton Posi. You will love it. If price is an issue then you can get a Duragrip for about $65 less than the Eaton.

Thanks for the tip. I'm planning on swapping rear ends soon anyway. I was hoping there would be something simple I could do in the meantime to tighten up the one I have in the back. It is terrible for tight road courses.

Would you happen to know if the 4th gen posi is as bad as the third gen auburn? I have been considering a swap to a 4th gen rear for brakes and a cheap working posi. I'd love to get a T2r but I'm working my way up to that skill and equipment wise.

Some of the 4th gen rear ends also had the Auburn. I'm told that the LS cars got the Torsen, which would be better for you on the road courses.
