So according to this tech article, ( https://www.thirdgen.org/torqueswitch) its worth 1-2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. So how does this work, would i just flip it on when im about to start? Because it shouldnt lock in 1st anyways. How hard is it on the tranny? (700r4) Also, what about daily driving, when should i have it locked?

Played with this many times on my bolt on L98 and my 383 stealth ram motor. Best results were with converter unlocked every time.

Factory computer controls lockup at WOT by mph. I tried locking it at various points and never gained anything. Actually lost ET but mph stayed about the same. Motor always bogged down when you locked it up. I just couldnt find the sweet spot. I tried bottom of 2nd gear, just after 1-2 shift and that killed the car. I tried top of second and that didnt work. Locked middle 2nd and that didnt work. Tried top of third gear near 1000ft mark and that didnt work. I tried locking it up right before the finish line for a last hope .05 second and nothing.

Only thing I found with locking converters is that it helps your dyno numbers. MOre power shows on the dyno run but doesnt mean faster track times.

BUT I have heard of guys doing this and picking up time/mph. Try it at various points and see what happens. Its suppose to be harder on the converter but I never had a problem with my car.

We have done different test on this through the years, and always the vehicle slowed down ET wise. MPH stayed the same at the most, and that was locking it in the last few hundred feet, otherwise it would slow down. It is harder on the transmission and especially the torque converter clutch. If you were to gain, then the torque converter would have to be badly made, or badly mismatched to the vehicle/motor combination. Dyno numbers will be better, and you might get a couple of extra MPH if you were doing around 125mph or more on the freeway. That is the only place I can possibly see a gain from locking the torque converter clutch up.

Hmm, interesting. Yea ive heard of some people improving their times and some made it worse
