Yes; assuming (a) your car has a 10-bolt and not a 9-bolt, and (b) you have a 3 series carrier, otherwise you'll need a spacer

You didn't say what his old gears are and what your gears are. If you both have 3 series or 2 series then they will swap. If one of you has 2 series and the other one has 3 series then they will not swap. For more information read this. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...-10-bolts.html

IMO, if your going to change gears you want to at least go 3.42 or higher and if you don't have a posi. now's the time. To much work involved not to do it right the first time. Again that's just my opinion.

Yeah deffinately wanna put a posi in there if you dont have one. To go along with Ronus. If you dont have posi. Save up buy an eaton posi or detroit truetrac. Put all new bearings, the gears in there. You'll be happy.

If you are planning on driving this on the street then you do not need the mini spool. These are dangerous on the street, to you and everyone else on the road. The Eaton Posi or Duragrip are very good differentials for the 7.5, or you could put in a Lock Right.

Re: will stock fourth gen gears fit in my third gen rear end?
I have put many lockers and spools in that replace the spider gears and they are not always predictable. They are cheap and effective for traction in off-road situations but can be a bear to drive on the street. A mini spool is the worst thing for drivablity on the street.
Think about driving into a corner of a wet, snowy, or icy corner with a mini spool. One tire is scrubbing the whole time and not providing traction. If the other one loses traction you spin out uncontrolably. Save a few hundered more dollars and buy a posi, torsen, or find a used one for what you would spend on a mini spool.
But, I am sure someone on here has daily driven their mini spool equipped car for 20 years and never had an issue. Please keep your story to your self and lets provide good guidance and not try and prove a futile point.
Oh and it was mentioned about a ring gear spacer. DONT! you are just asking for trouble. The spacer takes up the space on the carrier that centers the ring gear.
This is one thing to do right the first time.

What, I like how my detroit makes my jeep lane change in corners!

Sure sounded like it was directed at him and he said not to use a spool on the street in his previous post.

Since you quoted him and then said " But, I am sure someone on here has daily driven their mini spool equipped car for 20 years and never had an issue. Please keep your story to your self and lets provide good guidance and not try and prove a futile point. "
Sure sounded like it was directed at him and he said not to use a spool on the street in his previous post.

It was meant for those individuals that dont know or dont have the experience and try and put incorrect or poor information out there.
Sorry for the confusion 84 z28.

Re: will stock fourth gen gears fit in my third gen rear end?
A mini spool isn't only dangerous because it makes the car handle bad, but they also cause parts to break. I have had customers with broken axles, cracked wheels and one broke all of the studs off of a new Moser axle. Nobody got hurt in any of these cases, but you can see that it could have been deadly to the drivers and to the other people on the road if these had happened at the right time. Any kind of spool is dangerous on the street. They are for racing only.
