Need a little help
So, i saved some cash bought a 7.5 3.42 gear set. I have a stock 91 RS with a 305. I took the car to a guy that has years of experince in rebuilding trannys and rearends. He told me that the gears I bought do not work. He had my rear end fully apart with the gears in and he said the pinion was not connecting with the ring gear. I have looked at this subject for the last hour. I have no experience doing rear ends but I am about to tear this thing apart. Does this issue have to do with my carrier? I currently have 2.73 gears in there right now. Do I need a ring spacer to make these work or did I really buy the wrong gears. Please see the attachment for pictures of the gears. I am pretty pissed because I bought the gears for 65 used and paid the guy 125 bucks to have the same 2.73's in my car right now. Thank you in advance for your responses.

unfortunetly hes correct. the proper ring gear spacer or a different carrier would work. they also make thicker 3 series gears for 2 series carriers. bummer.

So would it be best for me to find a ring gear spacer? I am not trying to make this a 350 horse power car. I just want a little more pickup an go. really dont want to get a 3 series carrier either. Where could I go to get the proper size ring gear spacer.
