did i get screwed. t5 question
so i purchased a 84 ta for parts. it has the nwc t5 in it that i plan to use in my dt500 car. anyway the trans am was not running and i got her running. when im in neutral and i put it in 1st and start to take off, b4 i disengage the clutch all the way it pops out of gear and makes a grind noise. if i put it in second and then into first it stays and dosnt pop out.
also the car has a b&m short through that isnt adjustable but it seems to be clicking into gear like it should
does this sound like bad syncros or maybe just a worn fork? i cant drive the car on the street so im not even sure how the other gears are

to me it sounds like a worn fork. A worn fork would mean it wouldnt actually go the whole way in gear which would cause it to pop out. If it were the synchronizer then you would always have problems getting it into gear. you definitely didnt get screwed, the T5 is very simple to take apart and service.

ive taken a t-5 apart b4 so im not afraid to do so again once i pull it from car. can you tell if a fork is worn by looking at it?

Shift forks will definitely show visual wear, and if you arent sure then you can probably google a picture of a new one for comparison. i forget how the T-5 is set up but if you can take the cover off and shift it without taking the forks out then try putting it in gear when you can see it, then you will see for sure whats messing up
