I actually have 2 questions regarding a car Im looking at.

Is 125K alot of miles for these cars in general? I realize Im going to have to fix things when they break, but am I looking to replace everything at this mileage?

The second questions is. How do I figure what this car is generally worth? Kbb, Edmunds and Nada vary by thousands. This car is for sale a thousand over Nada. Its not mint, but not a wreck either. I just recently sold a 1993 GMC Typhoon for nearly $4000 less than Kbb, and was happy. I have to pay a thousand over Nada? Im not crying, just trying to make sure im not getting screwed.

Vert values are kinda funny because sites like NADA and KBB don't take into account that these cars are more of a collectible than anything else. Their low production numbers, mixed with high demand, can cause the values to fluctuate. A vert located in, say, North Dakota might not be in as high of demand as the same vert in a place like Florida. The best thing to do is assess the value of the car in terms of condition, what do you think you're going to have to fix down the road, and then look at the price. Another thing with verts that I hear a lot is that it's more important for all the vert only parts to be there and in good condition. For example, if you're looking a vert with power locks and they don't work, but yet all the vert only parts are present and in good condition, then it's still worth grabbing because they use the same setup as any other thirdgen. So fixing those would be easy vs trying to assemble and fix the vert only parts. This same example can be applied to things like the powertrain, but at a reasonable level, obviously you don't want one that has a transmission that's bad with rod knock in the engine.

I bought a 91 Z28 vert about this time last year. The only 2 missing vert pieces were the little seat belt trim that goes on top of the rear quarters, in front of the tonneau cover. Fortunately, repros of those pieces are available so it wasn't as big a deal as, for example, the header trim to be missing, which is still not available repro and very hard to find. I had to replace the water pump right after I got it, which was less than $20 at o-reilly's and I did it myself. This past winter, I did head gaskets and put a cam in it. I gave $3500 for the car, but the body is in great shape and the vert parts are all there. The only issues I had to fix were issues that you can have on any thirdgen and I didn't need to buy any vert only parts to do them.

You are asking us a very generic question. Is the car worth the price?

How much are they asking and did you see any visiable issues with the car?

 

The car Im looking at is on the West Coast. Im in NY. Based on the pics I received, I would say the car on the outside is a 8-8.5 on a scale of 1-10. The paint is original. The interior is cloth and its a 9 on a scale of 1-10. It supposedly runs fine, does have blue puff at start up, but goes away. I just want a rough idea what I should be paying.

Look at all of these and if your price is from $3500 - $6000 it might be a good buy.

 

I got bad news about the car. It needed a fuel pump, he fixxed it and he bumped the price up $1000. Add $1000 for shipping and im out. So im still looking.

Keep your eyes open if you really want a vert they appear quite often on craigs and you could probably find a local one.

I wouldn't say that 125K is too many miles. I just rolled 100K on mine this past November. The condition of the car is what is going to drive up the value of the car, not necessarily the mileage. The week after my car rolled 100K it was appraised by a certified appraisal shop for $12,000. And like it's been said before, values on these cars are tricky and you can't go by KBB or NADA.

 

I emailed the guy one last time saying if he changed his mind, I would give him the full original amount. His reply back stated that I could have the car for that price, and that I missunderstood what he was saying. He said If dont buy the car, he is listing it in Autotrader for more money. We will see.

Where is the car located at there are a few in Washington state that are for sale that my hsuband looked at & all of them he wouldnt own if his life depended on it. One is a 91 that has a salvage title to it & the guy wants 5k for it

You guys have to realize something car price values Tend to change from area to area.

I mean a car tends to be higher priced out here on the west coast than on the east coast because we dont use salt on our roads, so they last longer.
That kind of stuff

 

This car is in California. I had a friend of a friend look at the car yesterday, and its seems like the car isnt anywhere near as described. Im going to have to pass on this one and keep looking.

I would appreciate any leads for a 91-92 Z28 Convertible in White. No show cars or wrecks, somewhere in between.

There was a white '91 Z28 convertible in my area on ebay about 2 months ago, the guy listed it twice and I'm not sure if it ever sold. I think he was looking for $6,500 or something like that. If I remember correctly it had 80K miles on it. It was in pretty good shape.

 

If you happen to come across the guy, or his number, let me know. Thats sounds roughly the kind of car im looking for. Did it have Tan interior by any chance? I think I remember on on Ebay that sounded like that car.

I bought my 91 RS for $2000 about 3 1/2 years ago. Have spent some money on it. It was complete but needed a new roof which I installed myself. Since then I've put in a TPI motor, 4th Gen Leather,92 Hood with blisters, Z28 wheels with new tires and December had it resprayed inside and out. So far I'm in $51/2 K total.Still have an LS1 front and back brake conversion to do.

Its any eye catcher and don't think I could ever replace it for what I've spent in total. Prices are going up all the time.
