Car: 1992 RS Camaro
Engine: 305 Turd Bucket Injected
Transmission: BW T-5 WC
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Auburn LSD, AND it works!
Identify My Diff
Prior to owning my Camaro, I'd never had LSD (at least not on my car). I didn't expect the car to have it, especially as it doesn't have RPO G80, but it certainly felt like Posi. So, I opened the diff cover, and effing jackpot!
I believe it's an Auburn clutch-type locker, but I can't find much more information on it. I also don't have G92, and I'm pretty confident that this car didn't come with this diff stock. The ring gear has a little "13:42" stamped on it (shittily pictured). 13/42=3.0952, I'd assume this means it has what are colloquially known as 3.10 gears? Which cars/trucks did this locker come out of? I am coming up empty on much information on Auburns, other than what they look like.

42 / 13 = 3.23 ratio.
A posi and a locker are two different things. That is a posi unit, which is actually a Chevy term for it. The Pontiac term for it is Safe-T-Track, interesting trivia, eh?
I can't tell the difference between the posi units without disassembling them. An Auburn would be the cone style, the Eaton a clutch style. You may be able to find a manufacturers ID cast into the flange opposite the ring gear.

I'd say that someone has added this differential due to the fact that the bearing caps are on backwards (better check the backlash). The Auburn is a cone type limited slip differential and is not rebuildable. The 3rd and 4th gen F body cars and '90s B body cars were the only ones that got the Auburn, with just a very small hand full of 2nd gen F bodies (thank goodness).

Yup; that's definitely yerbasic stock Auburn carrier. The "high performance" ones would have another set of smaller springs in the center, and a different color. (which I guess denotes different stiffness or something)
Those would also have come in G bodies (Monte SS et al). A 2nd gen would have the 8.5" 10-bolt, which wouldn't interchange even though Auburn made those for that rear. In fact I think I have one that came out of a B body (84 LeSabre) that I put in my 74 Caprice convertible with a 454, although it might be some other carier of similar design and not actually an Auburn, it's been 15 years since I swapped it so I don't recall exactly... I also don't recall what my 2nd gen Z28s had. It's been over 25 years since I got rid of the last of those I had and memory is beginning to fade.
