1991 camaro open differential 2.73 questions
Hello,
Sorry, don't no much about rear end mechanics but i'm wondering if i can swap it to limited slip with 3.73s? is it possible doing this by buying auburn differential?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aub-542040
and
Richmend gears (3.73)
not really sure if this can happen or...? any info would be greatly appreciated
car is a 1991 camaro rs, 305 tbi, 700r4 auto, 2.73, i think its a 28 spline and 7.26inch, its a stock car.

Yes, you can do that. You'll also need an installation kit.

I would strongly recommend something other than the Auburn. That is about as low as you can go. The Eaton Posi, Eaton Truetrac, Yukon Dura Grip or Torsen would be much better choices. Each one has a strong point, so your choice would depend on what you want to do with the car. I would also recommend buying rear end parts from a rear end shop, not Summit or Jeg's. Tom's Differentials or Randy's Ring & Pinion would be much better places to get these parts.
Look in the FAQ about 10 bolts sticky for information about how to set up gears. There is a lot to it and you shouldn't get into it if you don't know what you are doing.
Your '91 will have 28 spline axles, and you will need a 3 series differential for the 3.73 gears. The places that I mentioned will have much better installation kits and they actually know something about rear ends, not just what is on the computer screen in front of them.

I'm not advocating the Auburn, I assumed you had researched the pros and cons of every style of differential and decided that was best for your plans. Even the pros can't tell you any style is best until you're sure what you'll be doing, and what you expect.

Parts list will depend on what you want to do with the car. You will need the differential, gears and installation kit. I also recommend axle bearings and seals while you have it apart. Don't even bother looking at any of that bargain brand junk. Get good qualiy parts if you want to be happy with the results.
