Help! Auto problem

Guys,

A problem seems to have developed with my auto box car is an 88 Camaro 5.7.
Problem only occurs with the car stationary with foot on the brake if I engage drive or reverse there is a horrid metallic rattleing sound but as soon as I move it is OK. Could it be related to first gear, clutch pack etc. I have changed fluid and filter with no improvement. There were no pieces of metal in the pan.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Simon

Might be something rattling under the car, like exhaust, cat. converter, bad motor mount, etc.

Thanks Jay, Just been under the car and everything is secure. I'm convinced it is coming from within the tranny. I'll have to take it to the garage. I can do most things myself but this is beyond me.
Strange why it only happens when stationary/ just setting off.

Could also be a loose torque converter bolt, flex plate bolt, or cracked flex plate.

I'll check that next. Could you answer this question for me please. If I am stationary, foot on the brake with drive selected is the input shaft for the gearbox stationary ie the torque converter is slipping 100%. Just trying to work out if anything is spinning in the gearbox during this condition if not fault has to be with the TC.
Thanks

When "engaged" in any gear, the geartrain "is not" moving when the vehicle is stationary.

OK thanks, so the only thing spinning is the torque converter when the car is not moving everything in the gearbox is stationary. So that at least eliminates the gearbox as the fault.
Possibly one of the fins inside the TC is scrapeing against the outer case or a bit has broken inside. That is what it sounds like.
I was quoted about 300 gbp for a TC fitted about $450.
Thanks

Simon
