$200 question

What is the best things I can do for $200? I have a 85 2.8 camaro with just premium wires is the only upgrade on it.

If I had to spend 200 dollars I would look into the following:

Dynomax Cat Back 139.99 and 50 bucks to have it installed

Catco High Flow Converter 59.99 and you cna easly do it yourself or spend 20.00 and get it installed

Crane 2030 Cam 169.99, hard work. Labor runs 250-400 dollars

MSD Coil, easy add in and do it yourself cost 39.99

Accel 300+ Ignition System 169.99 and you can do it yourself

Coyles Double roller chain 89.99 and it can be done by yourself or 150 or labor

Gasket match the pleunm, upper and lower and heads, cost 39.99 for the porting kit, 20 bucks for gaskets, and about 6 hours tops.

$200 should get you a very good "TomP" brand tune up & a bucket, sponge, car wash, water blade & chamie. Good running, clean looking car will follow.

take 190 bucks, put it in the savings, let it draw interest.. and let it keep building up until you have 10,000 bucks, then..

MSD is nice.. I am running accel.. I heard MSD is tougher but not any better performance wise. Example: Drop the MSD and it still works, drop my accel unit and your out 169.99... Spark power reports show they are equal. My accel unit is drastically smaller though...


It all depends on how many 200's you have. A nice dynomax cat back, chrome tip and high flow conveter can be done for 200. It will help a lot of things but not make it a rocket yet, but really help.

After that I would look into either a cam and roller rockers or a 3.4 swap.

Then I would look into porting and polishing..

Also do not forget the free mods...

I find it damn near hilarious someone would say that you can do the timing chain yourself (no, not impossible, but a bitch) yet say take the Dynomax catback to a installer considering that installing it consists of assembly (6 nuts) and taking the old one down (2 bolts) and intalling (same 2 bolts)

Actually I thought that was the job of a wizzer wheel!... LOL Just the 2 bolts off the cat and start hacking away... LOL

Plus for 50 bucks they installed my high flow converter and cat back and removed the old setup. Took him less than an hour and was worth it IMO.... It also can be done yourself.

I find it damn near hilarious people never thourghly read....

No, I read your post, but the catback takes 10-15 minutes at most and you paid to have it installed....

Well the cat-back can take 10-15 minutes if your a pro, but i had one hell of a time gettin the pipe from the cat up over the axle and up to the muff. It was one piece though...the one already on it was 2. Speaking of exhaust, while im here...how hard is it to hollow the cat and what are your gains? Is it a cut and weld job, or is it just a whack and tear out all the honey-combs? And personally, I dont think any do it yourself job should be done by anyone else, IF I GOT THE TOOLS, I do the job. But then again thats just an opinion, and you know what they're like.

Dunno about the Cat, and it was my first thing ever to do to my own car....I didn't know what the hell I was doing..I just jacked up the rear and got to work.

DO NOT DO THAT, IT IS MORE OF A POWER LOSS THAN A POWER GAIN, TOO LITTLE BACKPRESSURE

Just buy a High Flo cat like Catco.

If you search thru the old messages, I tell how to easily slide the one piece I-pipe under the car. You raise the back, undo the lower shock bolts, undo the track bar from the body brace, remove the muffler heat sheilds, and lower the axle downnnnn; then the I-pipe slides in from the rear of the car.

Thanks Tom, I'll remember that next time. I somehow managed to get the thing in without taking anything off but the wheel and the heat shields. Somehow I managed lol. I got some weird ways with that stuff sometimes. So no go on the hollow cat? BTW, how good will a Turbo muff sound on these sixes? Just lookin for some cheap sound for now, til funds get settled.
