From what I've been hearing, the Dynomax-catback on our 6's is the way to go. I even hear they work better than Flowmasters, but I never tried them. I think I'm going to go ahead and get the Dynomax, it sounds nice, will give you some extra-perfomance, and it's pretty cheap, like 160 or something from Summit. My exhaust stock is already pretty loud though, but the guys who put it on were very cheap and did a very poor job. You could also put some Flowmasters on it, they sound nice at idle, but from what I hear, they start to sound ***** up high.

If I'm not mistaken I think our pipes are like 2 1/4 and the Dynomax is 2 1/2, so 3 inches might be too big, unless you mean tips. Some guys here have Dynomax's or Flowmasters, so they might be able to help you out more. Peace.

They arn't loud. You wont get loud on a v6 without it sounding like a ***** over 3500rpm-4000rpm....
I will look for a dynomax sound clip and u can find out urself if u like it.

http://www.dynomax.com/pass_domestic.stm

Click on the GM performance link, it will bring up a PDF file, then scroll down to the 2nd page, has everything you want to know about the 2.8/3.1 cat-back system.

It costs around 160ish, Summit racing carries (Summitracing.com) also carries them, I'll find you the link if I can get it.

Yep.. that's mine, but remember, all you're hearing is the muffler and the engine faintly. The engine + the exhaust make a sharp contrast to each other.

hey 89v6fbird, mine looks exactly like yours! the only differences are that i've got the steering wheel with the airbag(mine is a '90), and my intake is a bit different.
i've got a flowmaster 80 series with 2.5 inch pipes from the cat back, and a new cat....dunno what kind it is, but the guy who did my exhaust put it in because the california emissions ***** wouldn't pass it.
i had a friend gun my car so i could listen to it from the outside, and i must admit that the sound smooths out alot..not quite ***** but getting there.
i would love to hear a dynomax equipped car in person just to compare, a lot of dynomax guys seem to hate flowmaster, and i want to hear the reason why

yea...right now i'm running the flowmaster 80's series...it sounds really good at take off and everything cause i had my girlfriend run it around a lot today so i could listen...but when i rev it...around 4 its starts to sound rice and snap crackle and pop...however...i'm still running stock cat and stock piping...the muffler came in a trade and i just threw it on there...but definitely go with dynomax...i've heard it before...nice and mellow at idle...but womp on it and it sounds good...nice deep tone...i'll go with the system plus that new cat...any recomendations on cats...either dynomax or catco...i'll probably go dynomax with the whole thing...by the way...welcome to the boards throop...i'll be talking to you guyz lata...time for some well deserved sleep...

A cat-back's really the only way to go for power. Extra noise is a bonus. If you're just after a loud obnoxious noise and don't care about power, give the straight pipes a shot.
