2.8 Exhaust

I just recently bought an 88 camaro 5 speed with a 2.8 in it. It has a quite large exhaust on it, not sure what the size is, but I was thinkin of throwin some headers on it, and a whole new exaust. What size would be the best for performance? And what companies make headers for the 2.8? thanks

not that i know of, you can try and find a set of hookers like i did or you can get a set of headers from pacesetter. hooker and another company made long tube headers back in the day, and now only pacesetter makes them for us. i think that they are even smog legal for our cars just incase you need that smog s**t

if i remove my emmisions AIR or SMOG or whatever its called, will it still pass emissions? I want to use those pacesetter headers with a hi-flow cat and hooker cat-back system. I have a 91 with the 3.1L will it fit? Is there any customizing that has to be done?

it will fit with no mods, but you won't be smog legal if they do a visual or a actual test

2 1/2 or 2 1/4" no problem. that makes sense to me now.

oh so it might still be stock size then, regardless i kno the tip isnt stock because i swear the tip is like 3 inches, sounds too ricy for me. Not sure what the muffler is, but i was thinkin of a glass pack to a smaller tip.

Currently im having a new clutch installed, and the next step in my preventative maintenece is get the injectors cleaned or replaced, one of the 2. Then the headers will come.

do a search for cleaning injectors, i remember someone does them, you just send them to him, and he cleans them and sends them back, but i don't know how much it costs

thanks, my 2.8 has 141k on it. so I'm not gonna do too much to the engine besides maybe better spark box? and headers. I just wanna get her running real smooth.

why not rebuild it. it can be done for quite cheap, and it will last you for quite a long time, you can also garuntee that she will run smooth if you rebuild it. the sensors are the costly part with theese motors.

Do they sell better pistons and rods, and better flowing heads for these engines? I mean if I go through the trouble of a rebuild why would I want it stock

check it, the rods are 5.7" rods, the heads from a 3.4 flow better stock, and pistons can be had for between 4 and 800 for upgraded pistons. the older small block chevy rods are 5.7" long, they require machining to fit on our cranks, but they are the same journal dia too. when you get the pistons have them drill the wrist pin hole out for the small block chevy wrist pin. if you want a better intake, talk to am91 or do a search for a company called trueleo. the throttlebody can be upgraded with some fabrication, and headers are available from pacesetter or pf&e. some of this stuff is gonna cost you some of it won't be but pennies on the dollar, or you can order a rebuild kit from jc whitney for like 600$

i am doing it right now, flywheel i am looking at about 280 and 260 ftlbs, but that is costing me some bank(intake 600, heads 800, trick crank 900, pistons 700, rods 200, cam 200, valvesprings 150, lifters 150, rockers 300, throttlebody 135) get the point. i am building mine for straight up hauling a$$, just a normal rebuild shouldn't cost you much more than about 8-900 with the machining work and everything. am91 has like 240hp right now and i have no clue as to how much TQ, everyone else is running a 3.4 really

i feel you, my 70 stang needs work bad but i don't have time to bring it down from pa and i can't drive it witout doing the work to it first. i plan on getting a beater when the parts are gathered so i can yank the engine and do a build up boogie as ked would say. believe me when i say that i am not leaving anything untouched in the drivetrain. posi rear, dual force clutch, regeared tranny, alum driveshaft, the works.

hell yeah thats the way you gotta do it. I wont even drop the engine into my nova until it is mechanically sound. Im doin the front disc conversion, i got a 4:10 rear for it out of a freinds nova, and once all that is done, im prolly gonna drop an LS1 and 4L60 trani in there. she should be nice

listen, i got a 4:11 rear in the mustang, don't put one in the nova, it is a waste of money in my opinion, get a 3.71 in there instead, they are the better rears for a 1/4 mile track anyway. trust me, your pocket will thank you for it when it comes time to fill up at the pumps too.

dude i run 50 series DRAG radials on the rear and it is all i can do to keep the thing from smoking them. any car over 450hp in my opinion should not have that low of a rear. i mean when i hook, look out, but i can't hook no matter what i do. last time i did i brought the front up 2 feet in the air and broke the upper control arm when it landed. a 3.73 is just enough to keep it hooked and alot of fun to play with on the street. i got a new rear(3.73) in the box at my mother's that i am trying to get time to put on it. when i am done' i plan on fixing the other stuff and playing with some of my buddies back home!

plenum and runners, yes and no, am91 is hoping to get some time to do some plenums up, but he only got his done so far. he is also trying to make some 65mm throttlebodies up, but he can't find the time.
