Same intake as a Ferrari??
So I went to a local carshow by me and spotted this on a Ferrari (dont remember the model).
Since when to we share the same intake as a ferrari? Anyone ever seen this before?

Can you say, "bogus ferrari?"
Why would you put a 2.8/3.1 in a real Ferrari..... Not exactly the most potent motor known to man....
Any more photos? I'd love to see the rest of this monstrosity.

I would never kit-car ANYTHING out of a Fiero......but aside from that I have to say, I do personally like Fieros....just for the fact that they're mid-engine, and available with V6's and manual trannies (4spd for the SE, 5spd for the GT), and they have incredibly low sale prices cause they have virtually nothing for resale value.

there is a f40 ferrari around here least I think that is the type but it is a replicar made from a fiero. good thing is the guy isn't using the v6 he instead is using something with a little more oomph to it
l98 sounds so much better in a fierro then the v6 does and scoots a little better to boot

Well, I don't know for sure. But this one probably has V8 in it.

There are some really good kits out there for the Fiero. Euroworks makes a kit called the Mirage X. The Mirage X is a rebody for the Fiero chassis to make it look like a Diablo. It does an excellent job of looking "right". Some of the proportions aren't the same but its close enough to fool alot of peopole.

There is actually two different versions of a Northstar engine. One is a 90* the other is an Aluminum 60* FWD version. The starter is actually up top just under the plenum.

V8 archie has been making V8swap kits for fieros for years...
you can bolt in a northstar, SBC or LS1 easily...... or drop in a 3800, GTPmotor, or turbo the V6....
lots of easy options.

Yes Fieros have low resale which is fine with me. We just grabbed up a really nice 87 GT and quick one for like $1200. Like probably a lot you, I didn't think much of Fieros before I had to use my son's ride for a week. Afterwhich, I sold my never-ending-rust-war 69 340 cuda and started modifing the Fiero for more power. Fieros have a very undeserved bad reputation for being unsafe. Fact is, they are strong and safe as heck, the only US made car between 84 and 89 to earn a 5 star rating for both front and rear impact. On an episode of CSI this year, they had a hummer run over the top of one and had to change Fieros for the shot because the Fiero's roof failed to cave in, the hummer toppled over though they didn't show that. One other thing, unlike the F-Bod I'm looking for, their body panels will never rust. And before someone says it, they don't catch fire easy. Since I like Camaros and Fieros too, I just had to respond. Heck I own and like my 76 Fiat 124 spider too, so I guess I'm kind of strange.
Yes Fiat, as in Fix It Again Tony.

the other common fire source is also due to faulty maintenance....there is no airflow thru the engine compartment... so it gets hot under there, especially near the exhaust... there are heat shields that to a excellent job of protecting everything... but lets say you remove a heat shield, or route the wires around it the wrong way....
then the insulation melts, and you get a electrical fire.
with a electrical fire under hood, good luck getting to that battery to unhook it...

RTFC...that's a damn good point.... I didn't bother to notice the tires....yeah there's no way in hell they could hook up enough to do a wheelstand on those wimpy little things. Hell they don't look much over a 225 or 235...

EDIT: Looking further at the picture, the piping to the TB is not the stock setup for a Fiero. The air is being piped in and out of something.
I suspect there's a turbo installed on this engine with a modded Y-pipe. That would push it to about 200 hp.

Problem is most around here think they know everything but they don't have a clue about anything out side of this tiny world.
I use to suffer from the same disease until I was school proper.
If you ever heard of torque, those pic would be easily explained.
Here is a similar shot, same stock size tires, on a 4000lb monster that did tow duty for 7 years before it was ever raced.

I’m a Fiero nut, but I’m a little skeptical about that Fiero GT pulling a wheelie, V8 or not. Whereas Fiero’s don’t have posi rears, and to my knowledge, few, if any have adapted such to them, I find it a bit hard to believe that someone cloud do that with just one wheel putting the power down. Seems to me, it should just go up in smoke. If I'm wrong please let me know as I would be very interested, especially about getting a posi maybe in mine.

The northstar is not a 60* block. Its 90* just like a small block. The bolt pattern is similar to a 2.8. There is a bolt that doesn't line up. Same with the 3.5L shortstar. Basically a N* with 2 cylinders chopped off. Just like a 350 and 4.3.
In my opinion, the small block is a much better fit than a Northstar. My old roommate was doing a northstar in his fiero, mine is the one below. The northstar required quite a bit of cutting to get it to fit. Mine was a tight fit around the frame rails, but no cutting required. Those N* heads are huge.
would you rather see a fiero with this in the engine bay?

There IS a 60* version of a northstar motor also- both 60* and a 90*.
And to Buick_350X, The picture you show of the wagon obviously shows the front wheels pulled with the back slicks showing wrinkle-
If the Fiero wheelie shot above is real, he is not digging it out of the hole then. He is bouncing it up on blips of the throttle relying on the nose to bounce back down then recoil up until he gets enough weight transfer to raise it high. He can't do that drag racing or he would loose major time bliping the throotle and releasing three times to get the wheel stand. You can do the same thing in any VW bug rear engine with a mildly aggresive motor, spongy suspension on the noise, and pinner tires on the rear.

A big problem with these message boards is alot of people throwing out info without facts. People rely on info they try and learn here. Please try to be more careful when you post, thank you.

I'm not going to believe some Members.tripod website. Find something reputable. Maybe a GM site? First off, That guy claims 400ft-lbs for torque.
Heres a start. This GM website states that the Higher torque N* only has 300ft-lbs.
http://www.gmcanada.com/english/vehi...devi_opti.html
Have you ever seen a northstar in person? Out of the car? Ever taken one apart? I have. I was a mechanic at a cadillac dealer for a while. I'm more than aware of the difference between a 90 degree angle and a 60 degree angle. ALL gm v8's are 90 degree blocks. Not all v6's are 60degree blocks. The only thing I can think of for the site above, is the guy is refering to the transmission bolt pattern. It's the same as the 60 degree v6 bolt pattern.

no, the later ones were V8s... and were a joke.
the "yamaha" V6 ones were actually faster.... and really they're a pretty good motor.... sure they're in a ****ty car, but the motor itself isnt bad at all.

that's funny i was just changing the head gasket of a 94 the other day and it had a 6 in it.
if skunk works would have put a 8 in there, they would have been gutting them, and using them for drag or nascar, that 6 put out serious power and hellatious speed. immagine a supercharged version of a 5.0 in a family car(rocket propelled blimp). that is what it would have been, not a family car with some *****.
the sho's have always been 6's and they have always been supecharged. they were never made by anyone but ford and they were early productions of skunkworks(read SVT) from the beginning. that is as obsurd as some kid trying to tell me that a 502 would drop right in to a chevy citation witout doing any cutting, welding, and bracing.
please if i am wrong, show me a ford sponsored website that shows a NON special order Sho with a v-8 that came from the factory.

wow. just... wow.
the ignorance in the above post amazes me.
early SHOs (before they became total aero jelly bean shape) were V6s.
the later aero jellybean ones were V8s. (and slower)
no SHO ever came with a supercharger from the factory.
and no offical ford site online is going to have anything about a car 2 years old.. nevermind detailed info about cars as old as SHOs....

i was wrong, to my knowledge they never produced a true v-8 sho, but obviously i was misinformed. why in ***'s green earth would ford skunk works want to do something that stupid? a 3.0L v-8 those pistons would have had to be the size of a coke can in dia! that is like building a 2.0L v-12 what is the use?

dodge also managed to **** enough people off to have a class action lawsuit filed against them for that engine because at 50k miles, the timing chains were going out and ripping though the fiberglass valve covers and intake because the oil was getting caught and turning to mud
