Tensioner help please..
1991 3.1 can someone tell me where the triangle indicator should point for a good belt??
There are 3 marks on mine..from front of motor about 3/8 of an inch between mark on left to mark in middle...then about 3/4" to mark on far right.kinda like this .. [ a] ] my triangle is pointing just a hair to the left of the inner mark.
i checked chiltons and haynes(same) but diagram in book does not match mine..

Re: Tensioner help please..
you know what, I've NEVER had mine line up right on my 2.8 and I've put new tensioners and belts on. I would say that as long as it's not bottomed out and the belt still has tension on it, not to stress out about where the mark is.
The best way to tell if your belt is good or bad is to look at the ribbed side and count how many cracks are in a 1 inch area. If there are a total of 5 or more cracks (count total cracks, not just on one rib) then it's time for a replacment. Also check the smooth side for any glazing or chaffing that could cause a belt to break.

Re: Tensioner help please..
I just had to put on a new tensioner because the belt was slipping. Should have replaced the belt at the same time, but I'll get that done in the very near future.
