Super Score!!!

I found TWO COMPLETE sets of twin snorkle intake setups (like on the TPI) at a junk yard, for $21.50!!!! Now, one of the cars I intend to put it on is a 92 3.1 V6 Camaro. I have it mounted and the the stock flexy rubber intake hose dosent reach, and is too small to clamp on anyway. So do I go to autozone and try to build something out of the import section to connect this? This was a steal of a deal and it WONT be wasted, I just dont want to have some Duct tape lookin craftsmanship up under there. Would really appreciate some help.

Not that there's anything wrong with Duct Tape. ROFLOL

Thanks,

Re: Super Score!!!

If you scored the V6 version of the intake, your in luck. It had a temp sensor mounting hole, whereas the TPI one doesn't.

Re: Super Score!!!

I dunno what the V6s use, but the TPI uses, basically, a WATER temp sensor and it gets heat soaked by the manifold. Whereas the TBIs use a TRUE air temperature sensor, giving a better reading for the ECM. When I did mine, I noticed that the throttle response, after the engine had gotte hot/warmed up, was just as crisp as when it was cold, because the metal wasn't affecting the reading to the ECM. Now, yours in already in the "cold" plastic, so that helps, but the TBI (if the V6 sensor isn't the same) will help you too.

This article is more about relocating a TPI sensor, but also addresses useing a TBI sensor instead, which is applicable to your V6.

Re: Super Score!!!

I can handle the relocating/adapting of the Air inlet temp sensor. Its the matter of connecting my stock 92 RS V6 intake hose to it. Its too short and not big enough in diam.

Thanks,

I did just that to my setup. Some stuff from Home Depot might have worked as well, but it was kind of thick-walled and heavy for my taste. I painted it black and epoxied it to the snorkel outlet, the other end fit nicely into the flex hose to the throttle body.

Re: Super Score!!!

i got my airbox from the junkyard to and what i did with mine was just add another one of those stock flexible rubber things... fits pretty good, only thing was the hole for the tube that goes to the valve cover was in the way so all i did was trim it with a razor and used some special tape that blocks out air and water and it worked fine... ill take some pics and find out the name of that tape asap

Thats pretty interesting. Could it be said that a person could get better performance from this. Not saying extra power per se but better throttle response. Since the car is reading cooler temps wouldn't it add more fuel into the mix?

I track every tank of gas, and on average, my mpg has increased 1-2. Most would consider that mere fluctuation. I would too if I hadn't PERSONALLY had it happen to me.

On start up, when the engine is still cold, the engine STARTS on a touch of the key. Before the IAT relocation, after the engine was warmed up, it would take a few secods of cranking to start. AFTER the relocation, warm car starts are as quick as when it is cold, and throttle response feels quicker.

Granted, this is all testing by the good old butt-dyno, so it's not very scientific. But I stil believe it is worth the effort.

You misunderstood...

The TPI IATs are water temp sensors which is bad.

It is the TBI IAT sensor you want.

Re: Super Score!!!

the tape is a stretch and seal tape and its usually in the adhesives section of auto places... and here are the pics of the rubber hose

i used a razor to trim all of the extra rubber around it... i used the tape to seal the hole and and it slid right in

Re: Super Score!!!

Didn't mean to abandon the post, been crazy busy. Anyway, I went to the zone and walked into the world of chrome plated pipes and colored silicone boots/clamps. A few minutes and a few dollars later I had what I needed. Guy at the counter was like, "yeah I got the same setup on my accord". I felt so ashamed.

But hey, it still works...

Thanks all,
