On the previous owner. He has somewhat of a mechanical background...but not a degree to support it.

I didn't know that the V8 ones had an aluminum shaft. Thanks for pointing that out for my bone yard run!

I'm running a 3.1 w/ auto trans. I believe those were a 3 speed with automatic overdrive? Anyhow...acceleration was almost non existent at 110+ so I let off just in case the patrol showed up.

and im actually going down .2 on the motor to a 2.6. DOHC twin turbo motor with a 6spd manual out of a #$^%&#@. yea, im not gonna say what its out of until its in my car and running. also involves ripping out most of the interior, suspension upgrades, etc... the motor itself has 400hp to the rear wheels. with proper gearing and the 6 spd, i will easily keep up or outrun a busa with a little more engine work and of course, nitrous.

if his face looks anything like the face of a guy i raced( 95 eclipse tried to race me in a 94 chevy g20 VAN with a 350/700r4, he didnt stand a chance, when i looked in the mirror and saw his face, it was PRICELESS), then it would be well worth it.

now, im not claiming that i can just slap this motor in the car and expect it to outrun a busa. but i am claiming that i can do it with a carefully setup car, with lots of work.

Hell, look on youtube for a R33 skyline outrunning a busa, or any car for that matter, then tell me it cant be done with the right setup in a 3rd gen.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

quick question though, what are the things that make a 2.8 sound like a 350??? aside from a thrush welded on a single pipe exaust with a hollowed cat(even with the complete exaust untouched, new cat and muffler before i put the others on, it still sounded like a 350)
quite daily people think i have a 305 or 350.

nothing makes a V6 sound like a V8.

I kind of agree, imo the only that I know of that really comes close is a 4.3l, which is a 350 with two cylinders lopped off =/

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

you can try and mimic it...but like what has been said before...v6's don't sound like v8's. its like making a 350 sound like a 454.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

My 92 rs with the 3.1 topped out at 100 it just wouldn't go any faster.
I agree with the "nothing makes a v6 sound like a v8" but to the coment of make a 350 sound like a 454, i have made a 260 olds v8 sound like a 454. It was runing straight pipe and sounded like a 454 with a muffler.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

If you topped out at 100 either you have a governor/limiter or something is seriously wrong with your engine or drivetrain...my 3500 lb lumina with all the aerodynamic properties of a brick, and the same engine topped out at 106, governed....
So if its not limited, might want to start checking things...

quantity of sound....yes. quality of sound, no. imo smaller v8's dont have the same low thump as their bigger counterparts no matter what kind of cam or exhaust...or lack thereof.

Re: V6 TOP OUT take it to the limit

Today I opened my RS on the interstate and hit 70mph.Thats right I did the speed limit.Although I did punch it to get there b/c of some Ford van that decided he couldnt do the 70mph speed limit practically stopped in front of me.

Top speed in RS 75mph (have only owned it 3 weeks and havent gone completely through it plus 70 is the speed limit)

Top speed ever 158mph on a 1997 Suzuki TL1000 (almost died the last time I did it and now I dont speed)

With age comes intelligents. I have learned years ago that if I need to speed I take the car down to the 1/8 mile track down the road. Will update my RS top speed once it has made it there.
