Smelly smoke from unknown locations

I am having smoke problems from unknown locations. Heres what's going on.

Ok so I just jumped my car and the batterie keeps dieing so I am going to buy a new one. I took my intake manifold off awhile back and put it all back togather. now I am haveing very bad smoke problems (within 2 mins of start up) I can't see where it's comming from directly but it seems more smoke in the areas marked. When I push down the accelator the car idles a lil odd. The smoke smells like exhulst fumes. yeah I don't really know but if you have a good guess let me know. Could a cracked intake manifold gasket cause that smoke perhaps? it's alot of smoke
Oh and also it's making whistling noises which I guess explains the smoke

Re: Smelly smoke from unknown locations

hate to say it but it looks like you might have to take the intake back off.If you used the gasket material to seal the front and rear of the manifold it might have moved once you torqued it down.I use a good bead of high temp silicon for the front and rear sealing of the intake(no gaskets) and the gaskets of course on the sides. It sounds like its leaking air from the back of the manifold and leaking oil as well. The only other place back there is the dist. o-ring that would create a oil leak. But it wouldnt create a whisting sound or idle issues??.just leaking oil.Grab a flashlight and bend over the engine to see if you can see the gasket material stickin out from under the intake manifold at the rear of it?.

"high temp silicon" do you recommend me using that stuff, and what exactly should I buy?

Sure..nothing wrong with it..many hot rod builders actually prefer it over the gaskets that come in the kit.I would just make sure its oxygen sensor safe..and I let it sit for a minute or two, until I put the intake on and torque it down.I just did mine and it worked fine. The stuff I use is called Permatex ultra-black in a tube.We use it at work and never had any issues with it.
