in a hurry need quick response knock sensor
i have a 90 camaro rs with a 3.1 v6 and ive been having problems with it running rough and sometimes it will knock so after replacing plugs,wires,oil pressure sending unit,cap and rotor now i feel like im getting no were because its still running rough so i brought it to a garage and the guy says that we need to change the knock sensor i say ok whats that gunna cost me he says well its a permanant part of the distributer and its gunna be around 250 for parts that doesnt sound right to me in the haynes manual it says the knock sensor is somewere else. were is this sensor and is this guy trying to screw me?

wow where is this shop so i can stay away lol but the sensor is on the low side of the block i believe its on the passenger side mid way down the block need to check my car the part is like 20-50 dollars and don't take long to change

The knock sensor is on the bottom of the block past the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. Not on/in the distributor. The sensor itself is only around 40 bucks at autozone and you should be able to see it if your looking up under the car.

thats were i thought it was this is a shop in niskayuna ny called haris but ive never had a problem with them before i think he might just not know what hes looking at.
he said he would try changing the MAP and making sure i put the cap and rotor on correctly but im pretty positive he said it was in the distrib and i knew that was wrong so im going there after work and having him show me were it is so maybe i can correct his mistake.

It's 32 at Autozone and more than likely the connector is gonna break as well unless u get lucky, those they have in stock at orileys for 11 bucks. My old one wouldn't come out of my old block. If u have exhaust manifolds you'll prob have to get at it from under the car and probably have to take starter out for ease of access. I have headers so I got mine out from the top
